Team Roy launches the Northbridge Baths Centenary Project 2024



The Northbridge Baths are a beloved spot for local residents, the tidal baths are set along the stunning Sydney Harbour foreshore, within the native bushland of Middle Harbour. They celebrate their centenary in 2024.

Team Roy’s lead candidate Roy McCullagh and his running mates Karen Borg and Joseph Mayer love swimming at the baths with their families. One of our platforms is to work with the Friends of Northbridge Baths on a Centenary Project to make them safer and more accessible, with better amenities, in association with key stakeholders such as Willoughby City Council; the Northbridge Amateur Swimming Club (NASC) and Northbridge Progress Association (NPA).

We have the support of Bruce Wilson, Convenor of Friends of Northbridge Baths, who is very keen to see the Baths given the attention they deserve.

Team Roy is advocating for a maintenance program, short-term capital works and properly researched future proposals in place for the Centenary of the Baths. In addition this would be a great lead in for the 2025 centenary celebrations for the NASC.

If elected, Roy McCullagh pledges to fight for Northbridge Baths to receive an upgrade for its centenary.

Willoughby Council election candidate Roy McCullagh has responded to community concerns about the derelict appearance of the carpark at Northbridge Plaza by organising a clean-up this Saturday. "As a Sailors Bay Ward local, I have noticed a significant decline over the years in the upkeep and cleanliness of our public spaces, such as Chatswood CBD, Willoughby's High Street; Northbridge Baths and Northbridge Plaza carpark to name a few," he said. "I can’t recall ever seeing council workers out in our suburb carrying out maintenance or cleaning. Residents tell me they would like to see this addressed." While Northbridge Plaza is managed by AMP, the carpark itself is the responsibility of Willoughby Council. However, it is becoming increasingly neglected. Meet Team Roy: Karen Borg

Karen Borg has lived in Sailors Bay Ward since the 1980s and is a passionate advocate for the area. She loves the wonderful bush and harbour setting that residents enjoy, while also living in proximity to the shopping and dining options of Chatswood and the city.   "We are so fortunate to have so much access to many great hikes, Northbridge Baths for a cooling summer dip and lots of waterways to explore if you enjoy canoeing or sailing," she said.  "And, of course, I have a wonderful group of friends who live nearby if I want to catch up for a chat." Karen grew up in Castlecrag, went to Chatswood High School and, after working and living overseas, returned to live in Willoughby, where she raised two children, who went to Willoughby Girls High School and Chatswood High School. She is also President of the Willoughby South Progress Association, a community group that provides support for local residents to ensure that we protect and develop our community thoughtfully.
