Meet Team Roy: Roy McCullagh

Image
Sailors Bay Ward resident Roy McCullagh is running as an independent candidate in the Willoughby  City Council election because he is passionate about making a difference in his electorate. He is the only lead candidate who lives in Northbridge.  McCullagh has resided in the area for 10 years with his family and loves the people, the natural  environment and the proximity to the city. "My wife actually moved to Northbridge as a teenager with her family," he said. "My children  attended St Philip Neri School, and now attend St Pius in Chatswood, and Willoughby Girls High  School. "My family love socialising in the lovely cafes and bars, swimming at Northbridge Baths, chatting  with the locals and going on lovely long walks with our black labrador, Arlo." McCullagh's involvement in his local area has included being a volunteer manager of teams over the  years at Northbridge Football Club. He is also co-chair of The Men`s Table in Northbridge and a  volunteer

Meet Team Roy: Joseph Mayer

Image
Joseph Mayer has lived in Northbridge since he was seven years old and has joined Team Roy because he cares deeply for the area and the people in it. "I have lived in the area for the majority of my formative years, and in many ways I do feel as if Northbridge and its many residents have raised me, certainly at least, they have informed my values and my character," he explains.  "My neighbours and even those I know only from passing at Bonds Corner or down the aisles at Woolies, are compassionate, generous and welcoming. I have grown up with this, and so it is something that I value greatly in the people I meet; a kindness of heart. The community spirit is fantastic." Growing up, Joseph spent countless burning summer days at Northbridge Baths, exploring the infamous Northbridge bike bumps, the bamboo forest near Tunks, the Knoll near Bonds Corner, and running through the golf course and all its nooks and crannies.  "But as I've gotten older, I've starte

Meet Team Roy: Karen Borg

Karen Borg has lived in Sailors Bay Ward since the 1980s and is a passionate advocate for the area. She loves the wonderful bush and harbour setting that residents enjoy, while also living in proximity to the shopping and dining options of Chatswood and the city.   "We are so fortunate to have so much access to many great hikes, Northbridge Baths for a cooling summer dip and lots of waterways to explore if you enjoy canoeing or sailing," she said.  "And, of course, I have a wonderful group of friends who live nearby if I want to catch up for a chat." Karen grew up in Castlecrag, went to Chatswood High School and, after working and living overseas, returned to live in Willoughby, where she raised two children, who went to Willoughby Girls High School and Chatswood High School. She is also President of the Willoughby South Progress Association, a community group that provides support for local residents to ensure that we protect and develop our community thoughtfully.

Team Roy campaigns for better services for Willoughby ratepayers

Image
Sailors Bay Ward candidate Roy McCullagh has called on Willoughby City Council to explain why rates have increased in the LGA, but services have decreased. “I have noticed a significant decline over the years in the upkeep and cleanliness of our public spaces, such as Chatswood CBD, Willoughby’s High Street and Northbridge Plaza carpark, just to name a few,” he said. “I can’t recall ever seeing council workers out in our suburb carrying out maintenance or cleaning. Residents and business owners tell me they would like to see this addressed.” McCullagh (pictured above, right, with his running mates Karen Borg and Joseph Mayer) raised the issue in the Open Comment section of the Willoughby City Council meeting last night. “The response I received reminded me why I am running for Council,” he said. “My request was met with derision and no answers – it is time for a change and truly independent fresh faces.” McCullagh also wants to attract more small business to the area and believes the

Team Roy launches campaign to clean up Northbridge Plaza carpark

Image
Willoughby Council election candidate Roy McCullagh has responded to community concerns about the derelict appearance of the carpark at Northbridge Plaza by organising a clean-up this Saturday. "As a Sailors Bay Ward local, I have noticed a significant decline over the years in the upkeep and cleanliness of our public spaces, such as Chatswood CBD, Willoughby's High Street; Northbridge Baths and Northbridge Plaza carpark to name a few," he said. "I can’t recall ever seeing council workers out in our suburb carrying out maintenance or cleaning. Residents tell me they would like to see this addressed." While Northbridge Plaza is managed by AMP, the carpark itself is the responsibility of Willoughby Council. However, it is becoming increasingly neglected. The area is overgrown and filled with rubbish. Team Roy plans to prioritise better sanitation in public areas when it is elected. In the meantime, Team Roy is holding a clean-up of the carpark this Saturday, Novem
