Team Roy campaigns for better services for Willoughby ratepayers

Sailors Bay Ward candidate Roy McCullagh has called on Willoughby City Council to explain why rates have increased in the LGA, but services have decreased.

“I have noticed a significant decline over the years in the upkeep and cleanliness of our public spaces, such as Chatswood CBD, Willoughby’s High Street and Northbridge Plaza carpark, just to name a few,” he said. “I can’t recall ever seeing council workers out in our suburb carrying out maintenance or cleaning. Residents and business owners tell me they would like to see this addressed.”

McCullagh (pictured above, right, with his running mates Karen Borg and Joseph Mayer) raised the issue in the Open Comment section of the Willoughby City Council meeting last night.

“The response I received reminded me why I am running for Council,” he said. “My request was met with derision and no answers – it is time for a change and truly independent fresh faces.”

McCullagh also wants to attract more small business to the area and believes the falling standard of maintenance in the LGA is a problem.

“There are so many ‘for lease’ signs in the area due to COVID-19,” he said. “I want to try and change that and encourage small businesses to open here. It’s important our amenities are first rate to attract new investment.”

His running mate Karen Borg agrees: “Sailors Bay is a great ward already, but there are some opportunities to take it to the next level. This includes providing improved amenities for the community, such as the restoration of Northbridge Baths and the Castlecrag Amphitheatre, redeveloping our two major local shopping destinations - the Castlecrag Quadrangle and Northbridge shopping centre, particularly the car park, so that they are destinations that combine the required amenities with community areas.”

Team Roy has organised a clean-up of the Northbridge Plaza carpark at 9am this Saturday, November 6, 2021. While the shopping centre is managed by AMP, the carpark itself (above) is the responsibility of Willoughby Council. However, it is becoming increasingly neglected. The area is overgrown and filled with rubbish. Team Roy plans to change that. Contact Roy on 0428 117 321 to find out more.

Team Roy is an independent team campaigning for election in the Sailors Bay Ward at the upcoming Willoughby City Council election on December, 4, 2021.
